Live and raw from the streets // As musicians from a privileged position in Australia, we have long drawn inspiration from black American musicians who perform with unrivalled skill, originality, commitment and power. We have countless African American heroes who shaped jazz, blues, soul, funk, rnb, disco and hip hop into the art forms we know and love. Legends like Muddy Waters, BB King, Louis Armstrong, Albert King, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Art Blakey, Count Basie, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Sam Cooke, Al Green, Nina Simone, Lauryn Hill, Diana Ross, Nile Rogers, Kendrick Lamar, NWA, The Roots. The list just goes on and on for DAYS // Without these innovators, we would not have the passion and love for music like we do. Furthermore, as a band performing covers at events, we acknowledge that just about every song we perform is rooted in black culture. And we can tell you that countless white pop artists have appropriated songs and grooves from traditional African or African American music to make millions of $. Don’t believe us? Do some googling and follow the trails. // So as an events band in Australia, we recognise our own privilege in benefiting from black American culture and experiences - particularly when it comes to our love and profession of music. // We promise to work harder to learn and understand and to stand up and speak out in support of much needed justice. Black Lives Matter.
